The Outbreak Of Dengue Virus

Dengue virus has killed millions of people around the world before, but in the last few weeks, it is gradually increasing again in Pakistan and especially in Sindh province. Due to the spread of this virus, the number of patients is increasing on a daily basis. Its old name was rickets. This disease is not new, but its history is centuries long.

The spread of this disease is an epidemic form. According to an estimate, more than one  billion people in the world are infected with the dengue virus. Many countries including Brazil, India, Pakistan and Mexico have been affected by the virus.

Dengue mosquito arrived in Pakistan from Thailand in 1980.

The old tire traders from Thailand were the means of bringing it to Pakistan. The dengue mosquito cannot travel more than 100 kilometers, but the carrier of this disease reached there even after traveling 10,000 kilometers.

Dengue virus enters the human body only through the bite of the female mosquito along with its saliva.

Male mosquito feed on flowers and leaves. These mosquito breed on clean water reservoirs instead on breeding on dirty water. Female mosquitoes lays egg, which survive for a year even in dry places. If there is dengue virus in the body, then egg will also contain the virus. When these eggs get water on moist places, they become large mosquitoes that spread the infection.

The storage of wet plastic bags is also the best place for them to grow. They also grow in the lids of beverages bottles and disposable bottles and empty juice boxes. Similarly, they can also breed in water plant bottles. There are evidences of these mosquitoes breeding in water cooler and pits on its sides.

Water falling from air conditioner can also help them to breed. These mosquitoes larvae can survive in clean water for up to a month without food. These mosquitoes can also thrive in tree holes and on wet leaves.

The dengue mosquito was spread around the world during world war 2 and later through the tire industry and tourists. The mosquito an also thrive in the moisture in the pipe opening that leads to the water tank in the house.

The dengue virus is actually spread by the bite of an infected female mosquito. The female mosquito usually bites a person in the morning or evening. It is silent so it is not detected. Individuals are susceptible to this disease and more than one third of the worlds population is infected with this virus.

The symptoms of dengue virus are

High fever

Flu

Sore throat

Headache

Pain behind eyes

Chills

Nausea

Muscle pain

Red spots on the body

If the above symptoms or even a few of them are seen in a person, then the doctor  should be consulted immediately or the patient should be admitted to the hospital.

It is very important to have a complete blood test of the patient in the laboratory. In this test, the number of platelets in the patients blood is checked. In the normal blood report, 40 to 50 thousand platelets are seen. In some patients, it is from 15 to 20 thousand. Actually there are millions of small blood vessels in our body which keep breaking. They act as punctures and prevent bleeding.

Platelets have a lifespan of 10 days. They are produced in the bone marrow. Patients severely affected by the  dengue virus have fewer platelets in their body so doctors treat patients with this  deficiency.
